MY best freind's wedding

My best friend’s wedding

Love is weird shit.

You all know that.

Most of you have suffered it, those who haven’t would still agree that Love in all its manifestations is primarily and irrevocably weird shit.

My best friend is getting nikah-ofied tomorrow. To his beloved of 6 years who he hasn’t seen in 3. Yet he loves her and she loves him so entirely that just looking at their faces when the others name is mentioned makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. They haven’t consummated their relationship, second base is as intimate as they have ever been. And yet the passion they harbor for each other is almost frighteningly obvious even when witnessing one side of their telephone conversations.

My best friend and I fell in love at almost the same time. We fought and had a severe falling out because we had one phone to bear the burden of two long distance relationships. He made me stand out in the snow to shout I love yous over bacteria infested pay phones. Bastard. But he’s getting married to the love of his life. Lucky bastard.

I’m trying to think of a time over the past few years when I have been happier… shouting I love yous in knee deep snow with a freight train trying to drown out my declarations is the only instance that comes to mind.

Nidhi, you asked me what will it take to make me smile?

I’m smiling now.

I don’t know why, but I’m smiling now.

God Bless A and S, forever.

I taught him how to fall in love, he’s taught me how to make it last. .

best friend's weddings are serious "reflecting and re-evaluating" times(atleast they are for me). Its the whole aura of this "wedding laden" month (december in karachi).
Congratulations, to ure best friend.

has he really taught u how to make it last?or has he just shown u that it CAN last?

Ahh ... so there is still balm in Gilead.

Speaking of which, for the record, I drop by often.

MISH:
bitter sweet? I have been told that i should actually be insanely jelous of the two, which in retrospect i am. BUt with best freinds, especially ones you respect a and have witnessed first hand the sheer purity of thier love tend to extract unsually sincere emotions. He sat thier with a humongous smile on his face, then she appeared to sit beside him trying so hard to be the picture perfect shy and demure dulhan, but cudn't for teh love of our constipated society keep the smile from appearing on her lips. They sat thier looking as perfect as any couple ever has and all i could think was that if there ever were two human beings as different from each other as sun and moon, and not an iota more or less, who deserved this moment of absolute and perfect joy, its them. Bitter sweet? No mish, there was nothing bitter in this moment and i pray there never is.

P.S:Will respond to yoru response on your blog

Xeb:
It Ain't over yet, and i hope it never is. Thing with love is that it does end up lasting beyond the constraints of endings and beginings, as i tried to put across in a previous post. I hope they never find an ending to a tumultous but stupendously rewarding relationship.

Express:
BEst freind weddings for me are a time of disbelief. I stare at this goof off, completely baffled at how time flies and how from being the comic relief of the group he is now on his way to being the hero for an incredibly gifted young woman for the rest of her life and his. How he has not only embraced the impending responsibility of fatherhood and all the horrifying poossibilities that come with it, but he does it with a smile that beats any i have ever seen.
Everytime i think of them sitting on that stage, and its not very often, i reflexively end up praying for the most perfect of all marriages.
And he's shown me how to, i've always known that it can. What was missing was the right formula, the chereography to this incredibly disconcerting dance that can take you either to the very apex of euphoria or to teh deepest recesses of your very own hell. One day, i think i will post what i have learned, for now i'm just content to finally know where i went wrong.

Majaz:
I see that Majaz, and i appreciate it. And yes there is indeed hope for me as long as thier hope for true love.

Sonia:
Damn straight ;)

but thats how i looked at it sweety.. yes, it wz more than wot words cud ever portray for them... but da atmosphere i sensed in da post wz sweet.. and adding ur memories/ thots/ wot-cud-have-beens/etc... made it.. well..(bittersweet is a very dear word to me.. :p for sum absurd reason).
i may hav used a rather, 'different' word n may hve observed it-- dats to say 'the post'(not da wedding, u'r forgettin i wz busy keepin ur smile up until last mo.) frm a n unusual angle... but all da same.. THEY R STILL GETTIN TOGETHER AND THIS POST WILL MAKE ANYBDY WHO READS IT HAPPY!! bass.. jan mut khao meri. :p

Well, just looking at the girls concurring to 'Happy Ending'. I thought I'll leave my say on it as well ;=)

I hate Happy Endings', because they make me deem that everything is bustling around nicely in this quirky world - which may apparently be delusive.

'Love' should be a snake pit really, 'cause it makes every sane person inane.

-Must not say more ;P

See ya!

So what's the use of posting comments that someone will never read, just this...

It seems like life works in patterns, all that you wrote seems applicable to more than just you. Maybe, that is why we need to know other people, so that we know that we aren't special just yet.

Congratulations to your friends, i'm sure they are beyond themselves. 6 years, and not having met for 3...by God, I can't believe coincidences at times ;)
Yet he loves her and she loves him so entirely that just looking at their faces when the others name is mentioned makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside..........i know the feeling, i so know it!:-))))))))

He made me stand out in the snow to shout I love yous over bacteria infested pay phones.......this is sweet!:-)))))

This is a lovely post Sajjad, very layered.Wonderful read!Thank you!

Mayuri!
